Press Kit

Greta MayWhen you've made your short and sent it off to the film festivals you will require a PRESS KIT giving:

  • a brief rundown of the film
  • a short synopsis of the story
  • a bit of background, how it came about, what it's shot on
  • a cast list & crew list
  • a couple of great production stills that can be used for press and promotion.

Here is an example PRESS KIT from the short film Greta May

Synopsis

Actress Greta May has lost her confidence. She has lost her rising star boyfriend Oliver Morrell. And she has lost her big break in a major new play that Oliver has made a roaring success.

When a stranger gives Greta his telephone number it only adds to her sense of desolation until her worldly wise flatmate Rachel tells her the only way to get over one man is to get under another.

Greta May is uncertain about Rachel's shallow advice but, left alone, she makes the telephone call in the vain hope that an encounter with the stranger will change her life and put her back in the spotlight.

Background

Greta May is a contemporary, character-driven drama that tells a fully-realised story in a 10-minute short. Written and directed by Clifford Thurlow, it was shot on super 16mm on location in London.

Producer Sacha Van Spall endows the project with high production values. Maureen Murray, as the Executive Producer, brings a keen eye for detail, and French DOP Jean-Philippe Gossart washes the screen in radiant light. Composer Trevor Georges provides a moving jazz score, and Jess Murphy in the title role as Greta May puts in a captivating performance.

The film stands alone as a short indie movie and has the additional interest of being one of four short films studied in MAKING SHORT FILMS.

The screenplay for Greta May was adapted from a short story first published in THE DREAM ZONE. The script follows the Eight-Point Guide to writing short scripts devised for the book. Combined with the film, it provides an insight into the adaptation process.
